One Year of Commuting by E-Bike: Honest Notes
Last year I parked my car to commute twenty minutes on an electric bike instead of creeping through traffic, seeking financial relief and easier mornings. While those benefits arrived, other surprising truths emerged along the road.
Pleasant discoveries piled up: heavy rain loses its sting when wearing dedicated over-trousers; money saved at the pump easily covers replacement chains; and gliding through evening air naturally dissolves office fatigue in ways steering wheels never could.
Winter commuting requires deliberate preparation: high-visibility lighting, thermal layers, and leaving earlier, while finding guarded bike parking constitutes the real price of peace of mind. Regardless, switching to two wheels remains the finest personal investment of my decade.
