The Home Office Upgrade Nobody Talks About: Light
We obsess over chairs and monitors, then work all winter under one sad ceiling lamp. Light is the upgrade with the biggest effect per euro on how a workday feels, and it is the one almost everyone skips.
The fix is layered: a bright, indirect source for the room, a focused lamp for the desk, and both pointed away from the webcam. Warm in the evening, cooler at noon - cheap smart bulbs can do the whole choreography.
A week after rewiring my lighting I stopped getting the 3 p.m. eye strain I had blamed on screens for years. The screens were innocent. The lamp was not.
